narrative essay on our tour

We, the students of BSBA went on a tour during March 5th to 7th. We visited the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the Coca-cola plant, the Gardenia factory and stayed at Caliraya resort. We got onto the bus early to find our seats and to organize our things. Many of us were pumped with energy and were excited for the tour. At around 3:45AM, everything was good to go and we departed for Manila- many of my classmates were restless and too agitated to go to sleep. We arrived at our first destination, the BSP Museum- Roxas Blvd. at around 7AM. We were an hour early as we were expected to get there at around 8.

We stayed in the bus for a while until we were called to go down. Before entering the Museum, we were strictly instructed to leave phones, cameras and bags in the bus as they were not allowed inside. We were welcomed by our tour guide who gave a short introduction about the BSP and quizzed us regarding our knowledge in the Philippine money and the BSP. She rewarded those who answered correctly with the limited edition BSP calendars. Then, we watched a 10 minute presentation about the history of the BSP and its development throughout the years. Afterwards, we went around the museum to look at the artifacts they had.

The museum featured historical ornaments such as golden rings and pieces that were used as a form of money to barter with goods. We also saw how the money evolved, from the first coins and the first paper bill, to the current ones. We witnessed the different changes our money went through the different periods in history. They even had rare artifacts like the notes we had throughout the Japanese invasion during the World War II and the 100,000-piso centennial note, measuring 8 1/2 ” x 14 “,accredited by the Guinness Book of Records as the world ‘s biggest legal tender note.

There were also several pieces of religious art created by Filipino artists. Not only did the museum feature Philippine money, they also had foreign curries like Ancient Greek and Roman coins and other European coins. Afterwards, we set off to Laguna. The bus ride there was quiet as many of us were drained from the trip. Many of those who didn’t sleep had their chance and slept along the way. We arrived at Laguna around lunch time and we were all starving. We were given 40 minutes to get lunch before we set out to our next destination.

At 2:00 in the afternoon, we arrived at the Coco-cola bottlers plant. We were welcomed by our tour guide who showed us a brief video presentation about the history, evolution and the successes of the company worldwide. Before we embarked on our tour, they gave us a free sample of their cold refreshing beverage to fight the afternoon heat. Afterwards, we went on to the factory’s museum which showcased a variety of items from the different bottles all over the world, figurines, diner designs, paintings, artworks and other miscellaneous items sponsored by Coca-cola.

Next, we moved on to the factory’s bottling area. I was astonished by the company’s high standards when it came to quality management. Hygiene and high productivity was one of their main concerns and they did constant quality testing. They used high technology equipment such as, the “magic eye”, which is a machine that automatically sorts out the bad bottles in the line. We saw the different parts of making the famous drink starting from the syrup to where the carbonated water is mixed in. Lastly, the tour guide showed us the water treatment in the factory and soon after, our tour ended.

She asked if we had any questions regarding our excursion and we said our thanks and said goodbye. We were grateful for getting into the air conditioned bus as the afternoon heat was getting onto us. Our next stop was at the Gardenia factory. We saw the assembly line for making the bread loaves. At the end of the tour, my classmates bought souvenirs for their friends and families. There were many specialty kinds that were only found in the factory at a lower price. The trip to Caliraya was long and many of us were exhausted and took the time to rest.

At around 6PM, we finally arrived at our destination. However, in order to get to the actual island-like resort, we had to ride a boat and then a jeep, which took us to our cabins. We were welcomed by the fourth year students who showed us our designated lodge. The weather up there was completely different. The air was fresh and cold against our skin; it felt good inhaling the country air with less pollution. When we got to our cabin, we freshened up and changed into more comfortable clothing and went up to the dining area where we had dinner.

The teachers announced that we had the night free to rest and that the team building activities would commence the next day. We were all tired and, by the time we got to bed, everyone was fast asleep. We were called for breakfast at around 7AM. The morning air in Laguna was moist, heavy and cold. The skies were quite dark, showing signs that it would rain in the afternoon. After eating, we were given a few minutes to get ready for the day’s activities. We were gathered around in the basketball court to be sorted out into groups.

There were 4 teambuilding activities before the amazing race took place. Our tour guide, Alvin, oriented us about the various activities we were going to experience. For the amazing race, I was put into the Orange team with one of my professors, Sir Jun Elardo, who coached us through the race. A few moments into the race, rain started pouring. Although we were happy to avoid getting sun burnt, we were in danger of slipping on the pavements. This made the race even more treacherous. The first test was to find the missing pieces to our map which would show us the entire island and our challenges.

We were the first team to find all the pieces and we raced to the next objective which was rock-climbing. Every group was required to have six members play and we had a problem choosing who to go because some of our players weren’t fit for the challenge. We successfully managed to get on to the next test, which was swimming. Afterwards, we hurried back to the basketball court where we shot hoops. We had to get six points in order to get to the next stage, which was the obstacle course. We were still the leading team but we kept a steady pace. The next challenge was canoe racing.

We were in the lead until something unfortunate, but hilarious, happened. My professor and my friend sank the boat with their imbalanced weight. It was the first time in the history of Caliraya that a canoe was been over turned. Due to this incident, we landed last in the race. The next challenge was the best of all, the mud slide! We ran up the slippery hill and formed a chain. It kept our adrenaline pumping and it was well worth the stained shirt. The race ended after we crossed the hanging bridge and soon after, the winners were announced. The blue team won with 200 points and we ended up with 100 points.

Although we didn’t win, we all had fun and the idea of teambuilding and cooperation was taught. We were all dirty and worn out from the race. We went back to our cabins to take a shower and to rest for a while. We were all famished and an hour later, we went to get lunch. We were grateful for the buffet and many of us ate like there was no tomorrow. After a satisfying feast, we went to buy souvenirs for our families and friends. The gift shop offered many items such as Bibles, shirts, books and much more. At around 2PM, we went back to our cabins to fix our things and prepare to for check out.

In an hour, we were in the bus ready to head back to SBMA. On the way back, we passed by a shop selling various sweets specially made in Laguna, one of my favorites was the Espasol, which was a sweet and chewy snack. The 2 days I spent with my fellow BA classmates was unforgettable. I learnt to cooperate with them and learnt a lot of from the tour. I’m glad to have spent it with them and we were Blessed that none of us got into any serious emergencies. We finally arrived at Subic safely at 9PM. We thanked our professors and said goodbye to our friends as the parents and guardians picked their children up.
