Why life-long learning is an important part of life after college

You are now only a few months from graduation and if you have not yet thought about life after you leave school and enter the work force full time, it is now time to start.

In the computing profession it is my opinion that if you stop learning you will quickly fall behind your peers and new graduates and eventually the skills you leave school with will become obsolete.

Consequently, I would like you all to write a paper explaining why life-long learning is an important part of life after college.  I would also like you all to describe what your plan will be to further your professional development and continue learning after you graduate.  When designing this continuous learning plan you should take into account your own strengths and weaknesses.

Be sure to include this personal strengths and weaknesses section in your paper. Be sure to address ALL of these things in your paper.

Do not include a separate title page and do not include a document title on page one.  In the page headers include your JAG number (left justified) and “Life Long Learning Writing Assignment” (center justified) and CIS-497 Spring 2016 (right justified).  Include page numbers in the page footer.

You must include at least three citations in APA 6th format to other sources within the text of your paper.

Up to two of these three sources may be citations of talks given by CIS-498 speakers such as Ms. Hendley, Ms. Van Devender, or Dr. Chapman.  Each individual speaker can be use only once as a citation.  Talks are cited within your paper as personal communications and these are not listed on a Reference page.

For citations other than talks such as journal articles, websites. Or books you need to include on your References page an appropriate APA 6th reference to that citation.

Make sure you use proper English in your papers as sentence structure and grammar is a component of your grade.  Your papers will be submitted to turnitin.com via Sakai so do not plagiarize the writing of others and properly cite such writing when you do use it.

If you directly quote from another source, as identified by Turnitin.com, you MUST both include the quotation in “quotation marks” and include an in-text citation in the sentence for that quotation which matches one of the references on your References page. Failing to properly cite and use quotation marks for the writing of other authors in your paper using APA 6th edition formatting for both the citations and the References page will result in significant point deductions for this assignment.

No more than 20% (as shown by turnitin.com on the top right section of the Turnitin report) of the content of your paper can be directly cited from the writing of other authors.

Your paper should contain between 1334 and 1500 words, not counting the words on the References page.

There are typically about 400 words per page so your final document. Without counting the Reference page should be 3 to 4 pages in length.

From the speakers:

Ms. Van Devender:

Basically, saying we should stay connect with the School of Computing and our peers to network and alert others on different opportunities.

This is what she said:
“As you develop your, your career and your expertise you reflect well on the University of South Alabama, which helps our future alumni get jobs and helps you to you have a better reputation for the school that you come to because other people know people that have come here. So, we’re hoping to build a really strong reputation for our school and part of that is through our alumni society.”

Dr. Chapman:
Dr Chapman is the graduate director in the school of computing and talked about the benefits of getting our master’s degree.

This is what she said:
“Some of the main reasons that we have for you to consider graduate school is of course the jobs. You’re going to be better you’ll get paid more. It’s more of a management type of position than you would have otherwise. So, you have more of a supervisory type of jobs. A master’s degree will allow you to work in a more specialized area.”
